Who we are!

The Association of Maryland Families (www.mdfamilies.org) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), tax deductible organization that seeks to make a difference in the public arena regarding the issues that matter most.  We stand for integrity in government, high moral values, constitutional authority, and Christian principles.  We are not tied to any political party.  We are working with Focus on the Family to become their associated Family Policy Council for Maryland. Our purpose is to educate voters and politicians to keep their commitment to both liberty and law; that America may continue to be one nation under God.

We are not allowed by IRS regulations to lobby for or against pending legislation, but we work closely with the Family Protection Lobby, which performs that role on behalf of Maryland families.

THE CHALLENGE

God designed the family as one man and one woman united in a lifelong marriage who share the commitment and challenge of raising their children.  This institution, the foundation of civilization, is under attack.  No longer promoted as the ideal, the traditional family is derided by many as old-fashioned, out-dated and irrelevant to the well being of society.  Divorce and out-of-wedlock births have resulted in ever-increasing numbers of single parents who find themselves struggling to do alone what God designed to be done by two.  Even intact two parent families struggle to raise their children in an economy that often requires two incomes to meet the bills and against a culture that undermines traditional values.  Gone are the days when the majority of families gathered nightly around the dinner table to share the triumphs and tragedies of their day.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Association of Maryland Families (AMF) seeks to impact society by promoting the institution of the family.  The AMF is an independent, corporate entity based on the Family Policy Council model developed by Focus on the Family.  Our vision is to serve as a voice for the family and to assist advocates of the traditional family by recapturing the moral and intellectual high ground in the public arena.  The AMF provides families access to resources that strengthen marriage and promote strong parenting skills.

THE OBJECTIVES

The work of the AMF may be divided into the following five categories:

1.   Conducting Policy Analysis and Education

Gather information and provide educational services designed to equip pro-family advocates and persuade decision-makers.

2.   Promoting Responsible Citizenship

Promote the involvement of pro-family advocates in the public arena by producing materials that provide a rationale for involvement, as well as, an understanding of how to get involved and make a difference.

3.   Facilitate Strategic Leadership Involvement

Advance the pro-family movement through the active involvement of professionals in medicine, law, education and the media who share the AMF's position on pro-family issues.

4.   Influence Public Opinion

Educate the public on cultural trends that influence public policy and law through media campaigns, press releases, Op-ed pieces and radio and TV commercials.

5.   Resource Development and Promotion

Develop and promote pro-family resources and programs that strengthen marriage and promote parenting skills.
